There is a small island in my pond. On that Island for the last few weeks, a mallard duck has set up residence in her nest. Near that nest, I have placed a wireless color camera, beamed the signal up here to my office (I work from home) and I'm publishing the "Duck Cam" images to the web now. Page updates every 60 seconds. Ducklings could hatch at any time.
The image occasionally goes screwy when local air base is training (like today) and saturating the ground with radar and other EM gloop.
Best viewing time is 06:00-13:00 Eastern USA time, Due to very bright afternoon sun overwhelming camera worst viewing time is 13:00-16:00 Eastern time.
If I happen to be here for the hatching, I'l try to grab a movie of that and post it on the same page.

That's cool, Martin. It's nice to be able to look at wildlife while basking under these fluorescent lights. On the east end of Long Island they have the Osprey Cam. I don't know if they're nesting now, but here's a link:

Interesting and good picture quality.
It never ceases to amaze me webcams have to include sentences like -

"..if the picture is dark, that's because it's night time..."

The Mount St Helens webcam (not working at the moment) even goes to the trouble of showing you pictures of what the cam looks like at night!!!!!

Lastly wild duck is good eating, although it is a very strong meat, and tends to be very fatty.....so don't get too attached <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, well we're not planning on eating this one - but I've had wild duck in the past, I prefer it cooked a while to get more of the fat out.

I've Finally Gotten to See your Duck!

I Klikked on your Link on the day you Posted, or Shortly Thereafter, -and "Couldn't Get Nothing"! (Your Picture Box Remained Empty).

Tried Again Today and I Did Get It!

Both Attempts are in your Afternoon Worst Viewing Times, -but Still Got to See Her Today!

During Several Updated Pictures over Several Minutes, -I Didn't See your Duck's Bill Move a Bit. I Suppose it's now Sleeping, -and that Ducks perhaps Do Not Spend All of their Sitting Time Awake.

I See Plenty of Ducks Around here in Real Life, -Including just Yesterday, -One at a Suburban Country Club Swimming Pool. At Least Several Miles from our Nearest Major River.

(Working, -Not Recreating, -Found a Cleaning Job there that Day) (Recreating at Lunch there a Bit with the Duck, though. And I Didn't Have to Tell it that I had French Fries in the Bag! It Knew So on its Own, -and Came Right on Over! I Gave it a Few.)

Though I Commonly Enuff See Them, -Thanks for Providing your Link Anyway! I and Many Others Enjoy Keeping Abreast concerning your Duck(s)!

I'll Go Look at your Duck Again, -and See What it may Now be Doing!

Concerning Another Avian Friend, -We Have a Small but Steady Sprinkling of Sea Gulls here too! Some 400 Miles Inland, and West of the Appalachians.

Nothing Like Harrisburg or Washington, however, -Which are Crawling with Them! Lake Erie too, -though that Shouldn't Come as a Surprise. I Imagine that your Philly Area Experiences No Shortage. Those Two Capitals as I mentioned are Much Closer to the Ocean, -but are Still Well Inland. Chesapeake's Nearness Mitigates that some. So it could be Both Surprising and Non-Surprising, -that These Two Well Inland Cities, -are Crawling with Gulls. Heck, I wouldn't be Surprised if Chicago were Loaded with Them! Milwaukee Too! As Mid-Continent Approaching as these Places are! Of course They've Historically Appeared at the Great Salt Lake too!

Gulls and their Great Flockings are of Course a Great Survival Resource as Well. As Well as a Fish Indicator!

Gone On a Little Long now. Let the Focus Remain on your Ducks! I'll Go See What She may be Doing Now.

Ah!, -Just Looked Again, -and She *Has* Moved by now. Her Bill's now Pointing Straight Out to the Right. [color:"black"]

I'll Go See What your Duck's Again Doing, here on the Occassion of this later Edit. Hmm!, -She's Off the Nest Now! But it is Difficult, Perhaps Impossible, -for me to Make Out the Eggs! Oh Well! OK Enuff! martinfocazio

Right Now (See my Post Time Info), -I'm Only Getting the Top Half Inch or so of your Picture! -Certainly Not Enuff to See your Duck! I'll Hope for Better Lucks in the Next Times!....Certainly Want to Continue Seeing your Duck!

Computer and Net World Speaking, -What could the Matter Be?!

LATER EDIT - Ah Now I've Got a Great Full View! One of my Best Yet! [color:"black"] martinfocazio

Martin, finally got to view this during the day. Fascinating!
Thanks so much for sharing this.
How long between battery changes on the camera?
How far is it transmitting to your receiver?

I'm Sorry Marty, that Both Unfortunate Things have Happened, as you Mention in your Recent Notice on your Link.

You, We, and Many Others have Had your Ducks While they Lasted!, -You Had Tried and Done your Best!

Its of course Possible the Ducks Moved Off on their Own. But it just might be Possible that Someone Made Off with Them Too! Of Many who had so Known or Viewed. Though this has it's Unliklihood as well. That Thought or Possibility may have Crossed your Mind too.

If Done, -its Still True that the Vast Majority of your Duck Cam Viewers would NEVER Do such a Thing! But it Only Takes One!

Still, It's Very Likely that the Ducks Rather Made Off on their Own.

It was Nice and Great! Thanks for Shareing It! Thanks for so Putting your Camera Up, and Doing your Best!

I'm Glad that You've Got to Experience your own Ducks! As Well as any of the Rest of Us! [color:"black"] martinfocazio
