(you knew that anyway)

But I reviewed my get home pack last night and found my 2l Reliance water bottle badly cracked.

The pack lives in the trunk of my car and sees both very high and very low temps. So the plastic bottle went rotten and brittle.

Water is a very important consideration for walking the 40 miles home. So that capacity needs to be guarded carefully.

I have a hand sanitizer bottle in the car. It has become inflated and HARD. Looks like alcohol evaporating and pressurizing the bottle during hot days.

Got 3 flashlights in the car.
One went dead. So, I removed the dead abtteries and never replaced them.

All packets of wetnaps dried out, even the individually packaged ones.

1 dead flashlight.

I carry a code scanner in each car so I can diagnose the yellow lights on the dash when they happen. (car repair tool)

I take the batteries out of them to prevent damage.
The other day I found that even being out of the device, the batteries had leaked.
Since they were not in the device, there was no damage.
But the batteries weren't usable so the device wasn't usable until I got some new ones.

One set of (nearly used up) hiking boots put in the car with slight sole delamination have now turned into about 50% delamination (might try regluing)

Car storage sure is tough on things!

My pack also lives in my trunk, here in Florida. So it can get quite hot. Therefore, I keep my water bladder and nalgenes empty, and keep store-bought water bottles in an open tray designed to retain any leaks from pool chlorine jugs. That way, I see and check on them any time I open the trunk, and I just replace them every once in awhile. The only food I keep is lifeboat rations, and I've enclosed them with extra insulation. I've never noticed any loss of denatured alcohol stove fuel kept in an MSR Bottle. I've also got an index card attached to the outside of my pack with expiration dates for meds, etc., listed on it. I keep only lithium batteries in my pack flashlights and radio, and they haven't leaked so far.
