BacPacJac is truly amazing. She definitely starts a fire slicker than I do.

Watching it now -- this is great! Three cheers for BacPacJac - ETS Mother of the Year!

I'm now craving celery and peanut butter. And grilled pork loin.

Bingo! Three well-grounded citizens in the making. No helicopter parenting in evidence. How refreshing!

Not sure about celery and peanut butter though. Must be an Ontario thing. Can two absolute-last-ditch-prior-to-cannibalism survival foods be considered fine bush tucker when combined?

What a pleasure to see Bacpacjac and her little pack of campers in action. Well done! Kudos!

I love it!! Its always nice to read her posts. Its even better to see her and her merry band of campers in action.

BTW (sorry about the side topic) ... Am I the only one who just cringes when somebody uses a knife blade to scrape a ferro rod?

AHH!! Thanks Guys! It was a fun weekend.

The boys are finally old enough, and practiced enough, to let go a little more, and they did a great job, in my opinion. They've got some learning to do, but I didn't want the weekend to be lecturous. Gavin's dad died of cancer three months ago and he was a real outdoors man, so he has a natural affinity for it. The boys call themselves "Brothers By Heart" and it's great to see them out there together having fun.

Bacpacgirl is quickly picking up a love of the outdoors. She asks to go "hiting" every day, and for a campfire every night. It was a sleepless night for me but oh so worth it!

Sorry, Ken K. We've gotten into a bad habit with the knife blade on the ferro rod thing. I still have to put a 90 degree spine on my fixed blade, and the boys started doing it in the winter when cold hands made it a bit tougher. Practice makes habit. GRRRR! (P.S. Gavin did a pretty good job with the back of his knife. Unfortunately, bacpacboy is convinced that his blade is the way to go. He even did it in slow motion to prove a point. LOL!)

dougwalkabout - give it a try. SOOO GOOD!! Add some peanut M&Ms or dried raisin/cranberries for "ants on a log". It's like s'mores and bannock - no end to the possibilities. wink

Life is pretty hectic around here but I love you guys!
