Hi all,

I'd like to get a Ritter survival knife but the blade length is over 3" and I'm worried if its legal where I live. I'm in New Hampshire and travel into Massachusetts(but not boston) for work. Anyone from my neck of the woods that can comment?

I wear a Nite-ize Pock-its belt pouch and am looking to replace my mini mag light with an LED. Anyone know of a higher end LED that will fit into this rig? I like the inova x5 but tried a dowel that size and it was a struggle to get it in and harder to get out.

Thanks in advance,
Tom

The X5 is a nice light. If that doesn't fit, you could use one of the many LED replacement modules that are available for the MiniMag. CPF is a great resource for anything flashlight related. <img src="images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

If you want a real bright LED light, see if a Surefire L4 (2x123, 5 watt) will fit in that slot.

Otherwise, the high class replacement for the Minimag is the Arc LSH-P (1 watt) with the 2AA battery pack (they have a pushbutton version and an out-of-production twist-on version that you can buy used on CPF if you ask). It will run for around 5 hours on a pair of L91 lithium Energizers and should fit in that Minimag slot. It's expensive, but you said you wanted high end.

You can also get an LED drop-in module for the Minimag. The Opalec Newbeam is terrific according to everyone who uses it. It's less bright than the stock Minimag and has a wider beam, but it runs for a very long time on two AA's and the brightness doesn't diminish til the very end. There are also high powered "sandwich" modules with Luxeon LED's (www.anlighten.com/shop). These in my opinion are a bit finicky--they tend to fall out of the light when you change batteries, which can be a hassle if you forget to watch out for it. But they work pretty well.

I'm not familiar with that specific pouch so I don't know what other lights will or won't fit in it.

As 03lab says, you can find out way more than you wanted on this subject over on CPF. He and I are both regulars there.

I use the same pouch and the X5 fits fine. It is harder to get out than the maglite due to its shorter length but still easy.

Bare in mind that I use it to carry a Spyderco Endura so I don't know if it would fit with a multitool.

A solution to the sandwich models falling out is to either add a metal retaining ring or retaining o-ring to your order - each adds under 50 cents to the cost of the order).
Metal retaining ring

or

Retaining O-ring

I'm wearing it with a SOG Powerlock (one of the beafiest tools), and I'm leaving the lanyard of the X5T hanging outside to ease my work. Without that it is still relatively easy to push up and pull out, just a bit complicated.
