I’m looking to replace my wife’s EDC. She was carrying a CRKT Navaho, but lost it. I don’t recall if it was the short or long one. It was perfect for her. The open frame was easy for her to clean. It was small enough for to be comfortable with. The liner lock and thumb stud worked fine for her. It had a decent point and good belly. She used it to cut cheese, tape, cardboard, clean her nails, you name it. As bad luck would have it, the knife has been discontinued, so its time to upgrade. I really can’t think of anything significant to change. I’d probably like to have both sides of the blade beveled and maybe an easier method of opening (God forbid we break a nail ).
Any suggestions?

Have you given any thought to the Spyderco Endura or Delica? I looked around for the Navajo, and the Spydercos seem to be about the same size and might be a little cheaper in cost, but will be just as good as the CRKT your wife had. If you want the open frame, and the size of the Navajo, look at the Spyderco Para Military. I doubt you will be disappointed with almost any knife you select, I just prefer Spyderco and I know the most about that particular brand.

Good luck and enjoy!

Garrett

My wife carries a Spyderco Delica, and I carry a Native for our using knives. They work fine, and are easy to replace if lost.

I also recommend the Benchmade Griptillian with the opening hole and Axis lock as a non-threatening looking knife.

None of these have the open frame feature you mentioned. I notice that the CRKT S-2 is still available in two sizes. This is a great frame-lock knife, with an open frame.

Smokey Mountain Knifeworks (www.eknifeworks.com) has 20% off everthing listed in the Tactical section, this includes a lot of folders. I'm not sure how long this offer is good for. I have found them to be a reliable company.

Well... it depends on what she will be using it for, but for EDC, the few ladies I know who carry knives daily are choosing very small, lightweight knives. I offered many Spydies Dragonfly lightweights to ladies, and most of they are carrying them.

Blade Steel AUS-8
Blade Thickness 3/32" 2.4mm
Clip FRN
Diam. Blade Hole 7/16" 11mm
Edge Type PlainEdge, SpyderEdge
Handle Material Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon
Hardness 58-59
Length Blade 2 5/16" 58mm
Length Closed 3 1/4" 82mm
Length Cutting Edge 1 7/8" 48mm
Length Overall 5 7/16" 138mm
Weight 1.2oz 33g

My girlfriend carries a Salsa. Titanium compression lock... Quite cool little knife actually, with an ATS-34 blade

Cheers,

David

That's how I got my table saw. I don't think I can pull it off twice in the same year.

I'm looking at the Salsa too. I think she'd like the big hole and thumb ramp. The blade shape looks practicle as well.
Thanks,
