Quite a few items developed for backpacking work very well for compact PSKs and the like. I prefer that my pack is as light as possible, but total weight is just one of several considerations is deciding what to keep and what to leave out.

That is an interesting article. I'd rather have to scoot from work than on my off time because my work (a towboat) allows and needs more EDC (including a canteen) than I carry on land.

In the event of abandoning ship, my lifejacket has more equipment including a Doug Ritter PSK. On a boat, I always have a Stanley canteen with my drinking water and a large halyard clip to secure it if I have to swim for it.

Just walking into a public forest land for a weekend with my EDC is an idea (fantasy) that has occurred to me,,, but then common sense prevails...
