I saw this video and thought that it would be appropriate to share.

While we discuss Survival on land, I remember reading about all the plane crash survival stories that are posted on The Equipped to Survive and knowing that Doug has an interest in Surviving plane issues.

There is a lot to discus on this video.

Nice, smooth evacuation. At least some passengers didn't know how to don their life jackets; it's worth paying attention to those safety briefings. I wonder if the ELT was activated. Everyone everywhere should learn to swim.

The aircraft remained afloat (at least for a while) so odds are good the ELT (commercial aircraft so it's required) was activated successfully. Curious as to whether commercial aircraft ELT's are GPS enabled.

I was not confident in the aircraft I flew remaining afloat after a water landing (aka ditching) so it was a no-brainer for me to carry a PLB in my survival vest.

Regrettably not everyone lived, They said at the end one person did perish.

Right, one person survived the crash but did not survive until rescue. What isn't known to me is if the victim succumbed to injuries caused by the crash, drowned, or what.

Those of you paying attention will note who the victim was and the victim's association with a political matter. ETS isn't the place to discuss that aspect of things.

The video illustrates how quickly situations can develop. I think some travellers expect that if anything does go wrong and they actually need to know it, the cabin crew will repeat the safety briefing. There isn't always time for that.

I was mildly impressed that the cameraman looked for, and found, the life jacket in the front pocket. I was expecting it to be under the seat. Mind you, the last time I flew I couldn't find it there and nearly got annoyed; checking the safety sheet it turned out to be stored in an overhead cubby-hole. So that's three places it can be. It's definitely worth finding out where it is in advance, and then checking that it's actually there. I suspect, if a previous passenger took it as a souvenir, it might be a while before the plane maintenance noticed it was missing.
