Stony, I have a Nitrolon in my EDC, bought it after I got one of the more expensive lights for shooting. Ended uo getting a third on my shotgun. Used the Nitrolon at a MVA and the cops were impressed.Shop around for a good price and the color you want. I think they come in black, green and yellow. It will pay to shop around for batteries, also. You should get plenty of info here, I'm sure there are past postings about this.

They're great. I've been using one since last Christmas. Nitrolon is SureFire's proprietary polymer (read "plastic"). It's the material from which they make many of their dedicated weaponlights (such as for the AR15/M16, HK MP5, Remington 870, etc). It's tough stuff! It also takes scuffs & scratches better than the Type II anodizing.

They eat batteries, though--but this is true of all SF lights. Best buys on batteries are SF123s from SF directly (12 for $15, plus shipping), or from Botach (other brands, as low as $0.89 ea).

With judicious use, you'll get a long life from a bulb, and reasonable life from batteries. Both are rated for a 1-hour run time, but in practice, it greatly exceeds that. I recently replaced the bulb in my 6P (same assembly as G2); I'd been using it since 12/31/99--daily, albeit briefly, but still, daily.

The only drawback is that the tailcap is not a "lock-out" tail cap (LOTC), meaning that it can't be backed off to a point where accidental activation of the light is not possible. You can, however, replace the standard tail cap with one from the G2 Combat light (I'll have to find the part #)--it is a LOTC, and available in black or OD, but not yellow.

Get one, or more. You'll like them.

David

Go with the Surefire models that have the lock out tailcap for EDC.
