Which would you prefer for multi purpose group, compressed sponge or pack towel?

It seems to me that a pack towel would be better for tying to your ankels to sop up dew, but I've never tried it to soak up water from a puddle of mud with one. It seems the sponge works better at soaking up water from small cracks, puddles, etc.

But what does the forum have to say about it?

Considering the weight/size, why not carry a few of both?

Well, being I carry a few bandanas on me I have something similar to a small towel for those uses, so I would pack a sponge. But, that's just me. <img src="images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

It's been a while since I used one of our packtowels, but as I recall, it is much harder to wring water out of than a sponge would be. On the other hand, the towel would be better for drying yourself off with. But as someone else mentioned, why not a little of each???
