I tried three different types of adhesives to repair a crack that appeared in the sole of one of the boots. No luck.

Have you tried Dow Corning 3145-RTV Milspec adhesive sealant?

movement plus difficulty in finding adhesives that adhere to plastics. You could consider widening the crack to reach to stiffer, non bending portions of the sole, then fill the resulting trench with shoe goo, so that the shear forces will fall on homogeneous goo...or accept that boots, like most things in life, are not forever.

I used Shoe-Goo on a pair of running shoes that needed a small piece relaminated, That repair worked fine and is still holding 6 months later. Depending on how much you like those boots, the sole can be replaced or you can toss them. As I understand even Vibram soles can be replaced, it's just a matter of $$.

You need to resole.

Its nearly impossible to glue a part that flexes constantly, and expect it to hold. Glue doesnt have elastic properties, so will just pull off as your foot flexes.

Unfortunately I have to agree with nursemike & mdinana, it's time to resole.

I've tried what you're doing but the flexing kept causing the crack to reappear. The crack also caused the boots to let in water. Buying more glue to try would still leave the cracked boots. I believe it is cheaper in the long run to either resole and have the boots last another year or two with new tread or depending on the condition of the uppers and the price of the resole it might just be more economical to get new boots if you can find a good sale.

I personally don't like heel savers on boots. The hard plastic is more slippery and it doesn't let the lugs bite into the ground as well. But that is just my preference.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Ilbob,

I didn't realize icw was a specific boot. I found two sales that might interest you if the old ones are beaten up...

http://www.qm-supply.com/product-categories/clothing-boots/boots/
$45 used & $75 new
Vendor reviewed at:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_10_17/643653_ICW_boots_right_now_a_half_a___review__.html

http://store.glennsarmysurplus.com/mobile/icw-intermediate-cold-weather-gore-tex-boot-usgi-p447.aspx
$59.00 new

I've never purchased from either vendor.

"icw boot review" in Google gave some other sellers as well.

I had the heels replaced back in December. I wore them walking for 4 months, mostly on pavement and wore down the heels some so I put the heel savers on. I have not found they cause any significant loss of traction.

I am going to do a video on the heel savers. I put them on a bunch of shoes that have heel issues.

The shoe goo seems to work pretty well as an adhesive, but I suspect there is no glue that will deal with the flexing and stress where that crack is on the sole.

It was an interesting experiment though.

I've had good luck using 3M Black weatherstrip adhesive for a couple of things, but not for soles of shoes.

I tend to agree with the others, with something that flexes that much, you'll probably be best served having them resoled...
