I have recently been able to get hold of a new Scott Cyclo Cross CX comp 7075 frame (around $150 rather than the RRP of $900), which is very light and corrosion resistance etc to build into a electric City type bicycle (flat bars with Mountain Bike Gearing) for a post economic collapse transportation vehicle or otherwise known as Solar PV Prepper Electric Bicycle. wink

The addition of an electric motor (preferably rear electric hub drive motor conversion kit) will add considerable weight of around 15-20lbs to the base weight of around 20lbs taking the weight to around 35-40lbs. A Lithium Ion battery will be between 300-400 WHrs, which in theory would give a range of 25-30 miles on flat terrain between charges

Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with e-bike conversion kits such as the Bionx models.

or other kits.

Googling the frame, i get picture of a roadbike frame. Not sure about this model, but a lot of bikes and wheels are build for a certain weight. Not sure if it is strong enough to support the additional weight of the electric hub, batteries and all the brackets to support it.

Besides I think there is something wrong with turing a roadbike frame to a e-bike. But then again i'm a triathlete...

the Chinese may have a head start on brushless permanent magnet hub motors, if not necessarily the best quality... another source for ideas... I looked at hub motors a couple of years ago for a project, but decided to wait until the lithium iron phosphate cells were perfected...
