I have been trying to find a readily available LOCAL source of food grade 5 gallon buckets and Gamma Seal lids.

I have finally had some success.

Lowes carries food grade buckets (about a dollar more expensive).

Home Depot started carrying Gamma Seal lids (I found out from the sales floor rep that this started about 3 months ago).

Can someone explain the fascination with Gamma seals? I've never seemed to have a problem with the typical 5-gal covers.

I've seen it on more than this site, so thanks.

The gamma seal lid makes the bucket completely sealed and is easier to remove if opening alot? I just noticed them last week. The price is about $7 which is about the best I have seen.

Many places sell the buckets (walmart, hardware stores, etc) and regular lids. Home Depot also sells the regular lids.

It depends on what you are using them for.
If long term no touch, no big deal
if regular access, or needing a GOOD seal, they are very useful

Long and short- if you need fast and easy- you can open and close Gamma Seals with one hand, to an airtight/water tight seal.

I LOVE it for dog food/cat food- 5 gallon bucket fits most of a 35 pound bag. So 1 5 gallon bucket for extra food. 1 2.5 gallon bucket in kitchen. We use it every day- In 5 years, it still works the same as the day I got it. Set lid down, twist. DONE.

When I upgrade my food storage, I plan on the containers I am using to have gamma seals. The ones in Long term storage not so important- They are not open /close open/ close.

Fairly few places sell the gamma seal lid.
It is true that MANY places sell 5 gallon buckets but MOST are not labelled food grade plastic. I found that Lowes sells both non-food grade as well as food grade 5 gallon buckets.
