Did not see a new member/welcome section but thought I would introduce myself and give a hey-howdy.

I am located in Central Virginia, halfway between Richmond and Charlottesville. I work in a trauma center in the Richmond metro area. I would be interested in learning and sharing with others and also would be interested in getting together with other folks in my area to exchange ideas.

hey howdy !!!

Welcome, Welcome.

If you were not a previous lurker, I'd recommend looking up some of the posts with EDC (Every Day Carry) or PLB in the title. Or post titles that ask about equipment. Then anything with lots of replies. It will give you a feel for the flow of the topics.

You will see a theme among most of us;

We support the right to carry a sensible sharp blade in a manner conducive to daily activity and if necessary an emergency.

We talk at length regarding self reliance in an emergency but readily support visual and electronic means, like mirrors, laser, cell phone, PLB/SPOT2. It is almost unanimous we have an old fashion idea that knowing how to carry and use a map and compass is required.

A PSK (Personal Survival Kit) is as different as the person. As is their BOB (Bug out Bag)

EDC runs a gamut from a light, knife & lighter attached to a key ring up to a pound of items stuffed in some sort of hard or soft container.

We'll talk about guns but we are not a survivalist forum. Tread lightly.

Same with new threads or responses that scream "Mall Ninja."

Feel free, in fact you are encouraged to provide your insight on every topic and discuss them as they are specific to your area. This is a global forum and even though your emergency plan might require bugging out from a event, somebody else's plan might be to Dig in. Through your thoughts out there.

Moderators will not suffer fools and seem to be omnipotent to new threads. Poor posters and instigators will be bounced out after being warned to control their words.

Moderators will occasionally allow zombies threads as they are linked to the greater context of mainstream media but we are not a Zombie Apocalypse forum.

Political statements are treated like guns and zombies.

Otherwise, (lol) have a great time here. We all do.

I gotta say, I keep an eye on the zombie forum and this one, and the other one is not so apocalyptic as all that. If you limit your reading to the useful stuff on current disaster events, first aid, etc its quite a good forum. More importantly, the zombie stuff is all tongue in cheek (I think). And I do appreciate the occasional reference to the lizard people, who among other things were the cause of the recent east coast EQ you experienced. I've been an account manager for the lizard people for most of the past 25 years, and compared to zombies they are a misunderstood and underserved world force... net net, we must admit that equipped.org comes out a bit stodgier than our bretheren over at zombiehunters.org. Not that that isn't a good thing. With levity tends to come more frequent references and images of AR-15s...

I often thing we could use a beer forum here too, but that's just me. Beer everywhere. Beer should be free.

Anyway, welcome to the forum Stimp.

Welcome aboard!

The pleasant atmosphere and high signal:noise ratio makes this my favorite forum. I'm convinced that newcomers largely improve the place.

Welcome Stimpy!

There's a great group of people here, with a collective immensity of knowlegde on a variety of topics. We discuss, debate and even have the occassional argument, but it almost always respectful. We're always learning, improving and moving forward together. Enjoy!
