The Santa Barbara Museum of natural history houses a great deal of material, including the growing collection from Channel Islands National Park.

This later material at the museum has some notable material as well, such as the earliest human skeletal material from North America (Arlington Man from Santa Rosa Island). UCLA, UCSB, the University of Oregon, and the Los Angeles Museum of Natural history also house some really significant stuff. And more is coming in as research on the islands continues.

Very cool to know. Thanks for the update. That's what I get for getting my info from the Malibu newspaper. ;-)

It would have been a perfectly correct and accurate statement up until around 1920.....

Then in cosmic terms, my information is relatively current.

Wellll lookie there. Nice link. I remember reading about 2nd Lt. Hiroo Onada. I just read the link and my recollection matches that he at least at some point knew the war was over and refused to come out of the jungle until someone was able to get his commanding officer to meet him in person and relieve him of his duty. (lucky he was still alive).

The other guy, Private Teruo Nakamura, hadn't heard of him. Interesting wiki.

Thanks.

Just an update. As of yesterday, there's very little Chumash material on exhibit at the LA Natural History Museum, and even some of that was "removed" for some reason or other. There was much more at the Santa Barbara Nat His Mus.
