This is a no joke fire. It is currently the size of Phoenix metro area, the 5th largest metroplex in the country. It is not contained at all and the wind has been horrible. 20-40mph for the last two weeks. Two towns were just given evac notices tonight as embers are falling on them. I have friends all the way in Albuquerque that are affected by the smoke.

FWIW, it is still only the 2nd biggest fire in state history.

This is really a shame. I have spent a fair amount of time in that country, especially the White Mountains. it is some of the prettiest high country in Arizona. I was glad to read that the burnout is not total. The forest will come back, eventually.

Also, the Horseshoe 2 fire is crisping the Chiricahuas, another wonder range in the state, and is threatening Chiricahua National Monument. It's a bad time for Arizona high country.
