While I am not in the Social Media demographic, I met this You Tuber last year while in Tokyo. He is an Ex Pat livng in Japan and actually has quite a following from posting over 125 videos of life in Japan.
It is a bit long (21 minutes) but he covers a lot of ground of what it was like when the quake hit, why the Japanese are remaining calm (at least prior to the nuclear implications) and where to go for the most accurate information links.

A perspective you won't get from the cable networks.

Now I have located his daily blog updates. I know that he works in media, and has been a guest reporter over the years, so I think he has a good line on accurate information, at least from the Tokyo, young urban view point:

Just as an aside - 1 billion people use social media every day. There isn't anyone "not in the Social Media demographic"

oh - and equipped.org - a community of people talking about survival topics, yeah, it's considered "social media"

In fact, at a presentation I made to a group, I reminded people that Social Media predates the web.

Good points all, Martin,
My statement above refers moreover to the fact that I was among the "unlikliest" attendees at Tokyocooney's You Tube Hanami party almost exactly a year ago.
I'd like to think I provided the "cool Dad" perspective, and was clearly one of the only attendees who had actual experience operating an 8 track player!
The young adults were pretty impressed when I said "I don't want to be an 8 track guy living in an Ipod world..."
As an aside what I quickly learned from the You Tubers is that if you hang around in their circles, you will most likely end up on You Tube the following day! ( Fortunately for my professional life, I am just a back ground figure in this sample)
