Went out today for one last hike for this year. The day started off cold and cloudy but eventually the sun made an appearance and by early afternoon, it was warm enough for just a light fleece sweater.

The area we hiked in today is about ~25 minutes from home and with it being a weekday, there were not a lot of people out...save for a group of seniors who to our surprise were trucking along pretty good. On the way down, I walked with the leader of the group for the last KM and although I am a fast walker, I only had to slow slightly for her to keep up...and she is 73 years old!.

The first section of the lower trail goes through an old logging area that last seen logging in around 1927. To this day, there are still remmants of their work and in one area, there is a lot of machinery and some hand tools scattered in the bush. The sad part is that a lot of these tools are slowing disappearing and it was disappointing to not see the old double ax heads, old shovels etc that once were there for all to see and appreciate...

The trail runs North-South and follows a river along it's length. There are many open areas right beside the river which makes for great pictures on our first sunny day in a long time. All in all, it was good way to burn off some energy and enjoy a nice lunch and tea sitting beside the river with a great view. If my GPS and calculations are correct, with the side treks and trails, it amounted to around 11 miles round trip.

Great pictures. I was intrigued to see archaeology in the making. Too bad stuff is disappearing, but that is what happens.

I must admit I don't find it at all surprising that a 73 year old can still get out and walk well......
