Greetings,

First off, I would like to thank Doug for this very informative site in addition to everyone who participates and shares in this forum.

While the forums were down, I wondered what other forums folks use and visit.

Most of the sites I found were geared more towards survivalism.

Are there any as good (or almost as good) as this?

Rastro,

IMO, there is no other forum in my experience which compares to ETS. There are sites that are as informative. There are sites which are as flame retardant (free from unpleasantness). There are none which are both--at least, in my experience.

Doug and Chris are to be commended. As usual.

I missed it while it was down, too.

Take care,

Andy

Welcome back...I'm certainly glad were back in action - this site is addictive!
I've mainly trolled around backpackers.com, but its not quite the same....good but not that good.
Survivalist sites seem a bit samey to me. Thay tend either to have a religous slant or a gun-toting siege mentality to them - not really my cup of tea.
I've found this forum to be one of the best informed, friendliest and most down-to-earth places on the web. Long may it continue.

Bushcraftuk is a relatively new site. There are a few familiar people from here;Stevec, Ditchfield,Justin,PC2K,Sargey. Tony has a very nice website going. Use indoorsman's link "Did I mention I hate computers"- Doug Ritter, email announcing restoration of forum

Hi rastro,

Welcome to ETS. Please enjoy your visits here.

Like many others, I've looked around and the more I look, the more I like and recommend ETS. As noted by other posters both in this thread and others in the past, most other "survival sites" are biased towards varying extremes...the ony bias that I've ever seen in ETS is the one towards being an open, friendly and nice place to engage in polite conversation about many topics related to being prepared.

To my knowledge, this site is rather unique.

Greetings all...

Comanche7 wrote... <To my knowledge, this site is rather unique.>

I'll second that! You could spend months searching the net and not find many (any) sites like this...I look into the forum most days as the info gained here is first class and atmosphere is good, (I've also read some 'heated' discussions & disagreements here, but I don't ever recall seeing any real nastyness or 'bad blood' between the members), which IMHO says a lot about the type of people who frequent this 'establishment' So a big thanks to the ETS technical bods for getting the forum back up and running!

Steve.

I've noticed some other forums I visit have begun featuring articles that promote more of an "Equipped to Survive" mindset for mere mortals, rather than a more rigid survivalist mindset for the diehard outdoors adventurer.

And it's not by accident. Some sites will begin articles with something like this: We have been receiving email asking how people should can be prepared while not attracting unwanted attention, or while wearing a business suit, or while working in an office building. Here are a few hints and tips to get you started.

These sites are now beginning to promote the concepts Equipped has held dear from the start.

One such site that I visit once in a while is Outdoors-Magazine.com. They posted a very nicely done article on a survival key fob built around a Swiss Army Knife. Of course I loved that! Here is the link to the write-up on the SAK Fob Kit.

Well I first discovered that I had an addiction when ETS forum was down. Like so many here I started to experience signs of anxiety.
Anyway glad everything is back again so I can continue sharing my questions and receiving answers.

Checked out bushcraft UK, seems like a barrel of laughs… Now I have more forums to check out
