What, journalists exaggerating a story?! shocked

Thanks for the update, Arney. That really helps keep things in their right perspective.

I read that news article when it first came out...Friday, I think? The first part certainly had my interest until I quickly realized what was trying to be said. It's basically what we've all heard since the outbreak started in Mexico--it seems to hit some younger folks the hardest. Really, nothing that new here.

I was reading a different doc last week. It's a bit difficult to get enough details on these things. These really sick younger adults were described as generally presenting with "primary viral pneumonia" in their lower respiratory tracts, so it's really the flu virus that is attacking their lungs, and not some secondary bacterial pneumonia swooping in and taking advantage of the weakened patient.

Semper Paratus.

As many have pointed out here over the years, preparedness is a way of life, not something one kicks into high gear when TSHTF.

I'm just taking things in stride and operating as usual (the usual hand washing at work, hand sanitizer in public, etc). Nothing obsessive or paranoid...

I've already been exposed to H1N1 a couple of times (damned near fatal in one case) and didn't find out about until a week or more later (yes, we had precautions, but initiated after we've all been up-close and personal)

That's the way it usually works. I don't find out what's making my folks sick until I've been all over them for a prolonged period...

It's amazing that my annual PPD skin test (for TB) is still negative after 17 years, and I still don't have Leprosy! Go figure...

I'm still more worried about the idiots on the interstate (drunk or sober) than pandemic.

FYI, If y'all find out that I died from the flu, please feel free to post "I TOLD YOU SO!", "SAMHAIN WAS ASKING FOR IT... THE BIG DUMMY", or "I KNEW THAT BOY WAS THROWED OFF". sick

At that point, I would probably agree with you. whistle

Still looking for my pig-nose mask. I'm going to walk into work wearing it and tell folks "I don't (cough, cough, oink) feel very well (cough, oink)... cool

Here at Cabrini Hospital/Alexandria, La; I have noticed that those in the Emergency Waiting Room, who apparently have a respiratory illness, are being kept in the yellow (isolation color) surgical masks, after triage and while waiting to see a Dr.

Edited for typos.
