This would be awesome if they get it working and a price affordable to consumers. Can you imagine a solar cell charging a battery using a laser to kill mosquitoes in the jungle. A night without a mosquito net, how sweet is that. You would probably hear popping noises all night from exploding mosquitoes.

That would be great ... right up until the time a swarm of mosquitoes landed on you, or flew between you and the laser. Ouch!

Funny sideline - you zots a fly in the eyes with a laser pointer, they go blind, and won't fly on their own volition for nothing. If you pick them up and toss them in the air, they just hang there hovering, they will buzz like that until they exhaust themselves without moving, even if you swing something at them, they are totally stuck. It is comical. I suspect it would be similar for most other flying insects, but I haven't the heart to test the theory any further.

Laser of sufficient power are effective at deterring racoons, mountain lions, attacking dogs, and I suspect bears skunks etc. Not as easily applied as pepper spray, but 100% effective if you get a direct hit on the retina, even if just a sweeping shot. Also proof tested.

I still prefer the Tabasco sauce on pizza technique made popular by a Super Bowl commercial a few years ago.

Has nobody thought of sitting outside on a cool night with the stereo cranked up pumping out Pink Floyd and watching the laser light show. It's a step up from the electric bug zapper and a six pack.
