Is it really getting this bad in the southwest? There is also talk of a Mexican government collapse and the borders spilling over with refugees. What is everyone doing to prepare?

Another aspect of life in Arizona today:

Illegal aliens invading an Arizona man's ranch are suing him in the US court system for $32 Million, claiming a violation of their civil-rights because he detained them so the border patrol could arrest them. The jury is now deliberating.

Stratfor (www.strafor.com) recently had a couple of good publicly available articles on Mexican drug gangs, US prisons and border problems as well as the stability of the Mexican government and economy.

The potential humanitarian problems for thousands of refugees flooding across the border in a relatively short period of time are mind-boggling--that's assuming that things don't turn violent, which would be next-to-impossible in that set of circumstances.

Standing quiet, stoic and patiently in the White mountains looking at the light shows of Pahonix and Tosoon; a band of Apaches who never surrendered waits for EVERYBODY to go home.

Take the profit out of drugs and blow the cartels out of the water.

Um, yeah. Just what I need, to be surrounded by even more crackheads. Oh, and I'm sure the cartels would just disband rather than move onto something else like extortion, kidnapping, ect...

I knew there was something in the works for enforcing the border with a military presence, but I thought it was due to the increasing violence and not potential Mexican government collapse.

I thought the primary concern was the Zetas, former anti-drug commandos (trained by US), turned drug enforcers and now new Cartel owners. They are very strong in Laredo, El Paso and other border locations. Recent reports have them setting up cells in most major cities. Law Enforcement isn't equipt to handle them.

I believe the question was what are you doing to prepare, not what the government ought to be doing.

We're just making the same mistake the Apaches did, we're not taking the invasion seriously. After all, our society is so superior to those who are now invading, surely they can't be anything more than a nuisance.

Pretty soon, I suspect we'll be joining the Apache-Americans on their little hill. I guess they need to ask themselves an important question soon; is it better to be an Apache-American, or an Apache-mexican? There is no such thing as just plain Apache anymore. Anyone who still believes there is needs to check their pockets/medicine bag and see what currency is in it. That'll tell you darned quick which way you roll.
