The "real" southernmost point is in Hawaii. It's breezy as all get-out too, suprisingly chilly given that a mile away is probably a good 20 degrees warmer. It's kind of off the beaten path, but on the map, so I was suprised that my family and I were the only ones there. There's also a nearby winery (which makes lots of tropical fruit wines), which is fun to stop in if nearby. It's also the true reason for our little jaunt in that direction wink

They have one of those in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. It's an awesome place with lot's of cool stuff inside. I rode the Extreme 360 Bike that let's you flip upside down 360 degrees.

You are referring to Ka`u or South Point on the Big Island.

kd7fqd,

I live across the freeway in Lehi. It must have been nice to leave the "icebox" for a few days. I could sure use that with the weather we've been having.

If we are gonna get picky, the Southernmost point of the US is around 38 miles from my house, in one of Puerto Rico's outlying islands called 'Isla de Caja de Muertos', literally dead man's box or properly translated Casket Island.

Dead Man's Chest?

Fifteen men on a dead man's chest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Drink and the devil had done for the rest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
The mate was fixed by the bosun's pike
The bosun brained with a marlinspike
And cookey's throat was marked belike
It had been gripped by fingers ten;
And there they lay, all good dead men
Like break o'day in a boozing den

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

5 more verses followed, then at the end was

But one man of her crew alive, What put to sea with seventy-five.
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Robert Louis Stevenson, Treasure Island
