we don't try and "convert" everybody we meet, we know that there are different faiths and beliefs. My grandparents on my dads side are Catholic, my moms parents are Lutheran,so we are a mixture of "religions". When we get together we don't harass each other we are just a family.

During my seven(7)years as Stake (think diocese)(sp)Emergency Prepardness Specialist I used ETS for training ideas and, tried to share ideas with all of you.

Any questions you may have just PM me and I'll try and get an answer for you.

Sorry to be long winded

Michael

Thanks, Michael, I was going to tell folks I'd be happy to have a friend that is devout LDS chime in, he is a regular guy and would never presume to be intolerant or preachy.

But you beat me to it.

I'm going to look up my local folks as well, see if I can pitch in and benefit at the same time.

Thankyou "Brother" Blast, I just made arrangements to Go Next Friday and volunteer at the cannery about 90 miles from me.

As I wrote on another thread, i found a cannery in my town, very close. A LDS friend is going to get me the checklist and we are going to go down together.

On a sidenote, my wife has an employee who works at the cannery 3 Saturdays a month. "WTF? And this was not mentioned to Mr. Preparedness you have been married to for 13 years?" haha

See here.

Blast or Michael/kd7fqd,

I have an appointment next week at the Palnt City Cannery. What do you suggest a first timer stock up on /purchase? I realize it depends on what your family will eat, but maybe you can post what you got Blast to give me an idea.

Thanks!

Texasboots,

From memory (all #10 cans):

Twelve cans of rice
Twelve cans of hard red wheat
Two cans of sugar
Three cans of flour
Two cans of potato flakes
One can of black beans
Two cans of pinto beans
Two cans of regular oatmeal (rolled oats)
Two cans of quick oats
Two cans of macaroni
Two cans of dehydrated refried beans
Two cans of powdered milk

Other people there told me that the powdered milk doesn't taste very good and that it is best used for cooking or on cereal rather than drank straight. However the dehydrated refried beans are AMAZINGLY GOOD. We had a bowl of them out to snack on while we were canning everything else. The dried apples are also really good, but we make our own of those.

Right now I wish I would have added more macaroni and more flour to my purchase. We use a lot of both of those.

Hope this helps.

-Blast

Thanks for the info Blast. I am debating on buying flour vrs wheat. I know wheat lasts a lot longer, so that would be a better choice im sure, but then I have to get a grinder ect.. Is the macaroni elbow?

I checked out your wild edibles page, great stuff.

I would like to see you make a meal or somthing out of wild growing things. I see many lists of edible things, but never actually see people eating them, except dandelions of course.

Even Les Stroud lost in the woods for several days usually only eats a rat or a squriel or somthing. I would love to see how someone would actually live off of wild edibles, if thats possible.. For longer than say 2-3 days.

Thanks,
