I think its a great idea. However, how do you empty it, dry it and repack it after you have filled it and not needed to use it?

Looks like it would work as long as you have the ½ hour of time to fill it The draining it question is a good one.

Also I could just fill the tub with water and run any of it I use for drinking or cooking through my Katadyn filter.

I bought one and it's under the sink in the bathroom. I think it's a fantastic idea. It does drain very easily (see the video on the website). BobS is right though, you do need ~1/2 hour to fill it.

Great idea. For $30, buy a couple and you really shouldn't have to worry about draining and repacking. If water service is down for more than a few weeks, there will be nothing to refill it with anyway.
