The UN's vehicle of choice for those humanitarian missions:

However it has got to be the Unimog camper for me ;-)

or a DPV for when you need more speed and better fuel economy:

Man, you guys are serious about your BOVs. Me, I'd probably go with a boring diesel Toyota pickup. Or maybe the MadMax Interceptor. Of course then I'd need a whole new wardrobe to go along with it. You know, leather pants, boots, a sawed off double-barrel, and accent lessons. cool

My first impression is that the ultimate vehicle is shoe leather or a bicycle.

The original Willis Jeep - small, light and all of 36 HP or so, and geared low, giving you a maximum speed of about 50mph wide open - might be the icon to shoot for. Simple, durable, repairable, all-terrain, and efficient.

The Zap Xebra might be a good over road vehicle. All-electric two-seat car:

Or perhaps as a cargo van:

They left out the WWII era Jeep.

Oops, they missed a good one.

There's that Ural again!

I need to go buy me one of those.

If gas price weren't an issue I'd be shopping for a Unimog already. On my budget I'd have to get the green equivalent:

Though I am considering one as a backup vehicle and for taking me to SAR call outs.

I'd go for the Toyota, or a Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen 290 if extreme offroading is required. It's ultra reliable and has three fully locking differentials.

Those two are as tough as they come.
