I'll be bbq'ing ribs this weekend (4+ hr smoke), so i'll try it then (not really allowed campfires on the island).

Unless someone else who has the cup and a camp stove/open fire, and can use them????

I boiled about 1/2 a cup full in a couple of minutes and the cup survived without any seemless adverse affects. You do have to careful though with regards to the stability of the Sigg cup on the stove. Also with the handles being quite small are thus nearer the heat of the stove flame so some care should be used lifting the mug. Overall the mug is useable but not ideal for boiling water. Also the mug seems to creak (sound) when the stove flame was turned down. I'm not to sure whether this was due to the stove or the mug e.g. the dissimilar stainless steel and nickel bronze brazing material used to weld the cup together.

Fear--well that looked like a very positive test--if the
cup would stand up to the heat from a Gaz stove it should
work with just about anything..i would not want to do this
other than a back up when no other pot would be avalable.
my hiking stove has a pot as a cover and i use the water
out of the Sigg to make tea or coffee and drink it out of the
cup..you took a chance with a pricy bit of gear for that test.--all us Sigg canteen onwers thank you--

Well, said. Thank you for your test Fear. I like the idea of being able to use the Sigg cup as a pot in a pinch. Good to know its not going to fail catastrophically.

I was thinking of getting one of the sigg flasks last fall and was told by the local sig dealer that they couldn't get them anymore. Either the flasks or the oval bottles that they fit in. I went with the ti snow peak and very happy with it.

but can't find a retailer in the UK or anyone in the US who will send it to the UK. frown
