I ran across a good deal on a Maxon 40 ch. handheld CB radio tonight at WAL-you know who. They've got the Mossy Oak Camo models on clearance for $20 which is pretty decent for a CB radio. I know that CBs are ancient technology, but they still have some usefulness left in certain situations. I couldn't resist since as a ham radio operator, I am required to buy any cheap radio I come across. I'm sure that's in the FCC regulations somewhere! crazy Just thought I'd pass that along. Standard disclaimer: Not affiliated with WAL-you know who or Maxon or any living person, yada, yada, yada...

Hey Blacktop.....In what department did you find them? I've looked in the automotive and haven't seen any handhelds there before. Were they in the sporting goods display counter?

thanks,
smitty

I found them in the automotive department next to the car radios, speakers, rear view cameras, etc. I hadn't seen these before, but that could be because I don't usually buy camo'd products. Sorry, Eugene, no battery pack - these run on 9 AA batteries and also come with a cigarette lighter cord. Model number is HCB-10CMO. The antenna connector is a BNC type so with an adapter, you could hook it up to an external antenna for better range.

Ok, I have the one that has the packs that slide on the bottom, one holds 6 AA's and have two 8 AA re-chargeable packs. Makes it handy to be able to use one if I'm charging the batteries in the other.
