computer bag / man bag / purse based kits - 05/23/13 02:36 AM

daily bag carry.

Commuters ( like me) often have to move from bus to train to car to work -- so a bag based system makes sense. Its easy to ad a few preps to your over the shoulder bag or backpack

This is my daily carry bag back and forth into the office:

It has so much "stuff" in it that I'm embarassed to list it all. It's a combination Survival/DailyNeeds/Entertainment bag.

I just received the larger version of that bag, Haertig. I think I actually would prefer the smaller one, it is larger than expected, but nice. I actually have used a Swiss gear nylon computer briefcase as my daily carry, and it travels with me as well with a couple of items removed. It blends in most environments but carries what I want in it.

I use an REI brand backpack, roughly 1900 cube Alpine daypack. I keep my non-pocket EDC items in the backpack. The stuff in the back like my pocket carry is for daily use and not for emergencies only. Since my truck and the big kit there is almost always within a 10 minute walk, the backpack is really just a convenience unless for some reason I really can't get to the truck; in my situation that's highly unlikely.

I have a Lands End soft sided nylon/cotton brief bag. Hauls a ton of stuff. I use it for my carry on with extra clothes. Will take a laptop easily. Actually hauls more than I care to carry.

I EDC a Mountainsmith Lumbar pack. It has a single shoulder strap but I also purchased their Strappettes which are dual shoulder straps to make it easier to carry when really loaded. Plenty large enough to carry basic necessities and still have room for lunch etc.

It fits well with the REI motif that is common around Seattle and doesn't stand out as "tactical" which I am actively trying to avoid. It also doesn't look like a laptop bag so may get less attention from thieves as well.

I'm partial to full-grain leather because it goes better with my business attire. This has been my daily carry manbag for essentials that are always on my person, even while walking around the office:

Ebay - Leather Manbag

Walking around the office with some sort of nylon waist pack would look too weird. I also carry a briefcase for my laptop and papers.

Yep, ireckon's got style.

I use one of the small Patagonia sling bags for your average run around the town. My exact model is no longer in production, but you can easily find their current equivalent. But that bag just "houses" my EDC bag, which is the Maxpedition pocket organizer. In business attire, I leave the EDC bag in my business case, and I try not to be too far away from it. This makes it easy for me to change from setting to setting without having to repack.

I haven't yet accepted the idea of a man bag into my heart.

Isn't it fully described as a "tactical satchel?"

Indy was using a WW2 British Army Gas Mask Bag.

Originals are available for $20-40

The Flyee MID Notebag bag makes for a nice Comms bag. The PALS webbing is useful for hanging other pouches off including Radios etc.
