getting home from a mobile/distant worksite - 11/09/06 02:49 PM

Geetings! The problem that I have been tackling deals with getting home from the boat/port that I am working in /on WTSHTF. I m currently 5-7 days march from my work to my home. I have made provisions for water, food, temporary shelter, etc. these plans allow for grabbing what extra's I can while enroute when an opportunty might present itself. Working on boats does not have one kept in the perfect shape for a long march which is why I am allowing 7 days to make a 4 day forced march. I can feel the shin splints when I am just thinking about it. I am an experienced woodsman and I am up to date on Intel, topography, etc. Still, no one knows it all and I would welcome any ideas/suggestions that y'all might have that I haven't thought about!

Welcome to the forum!

The first thing that come to my mind is that there will likely be others in your working environment in the same predicament. See if you can team up with them, if there are some that you trust.

Also, storing a bike -- even a cheap bike will cut your travel time by 1/3.

Yes, y'all are right but the situation is fluid concerning other shipmates, evrybody will want to go home & Iwill help them out as best that I can. The bike has been tried & lost bfore on the USCGC RARITAN in NYC Harbor. There is no place to store the bike, but a bike is a relatively easy item to come across when traveling, I've done THAT before, in a pinch.
I a plnning for a little cross country to hook up with an East-West railroad ine hat I can follow home & hich allows me to keep a lower profile along the way.
