Emergency Food Supply Bucket @ Costco - 10/11/06 03:46 AM

I was just at Costco and saw the Emergency Food Bucket for $109. The exact product is here for $199:

I thought I had read on here someone buying it, but alas, it was probably some other forum (did a search and got zip). I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this product..

Take care and read two important things before buying... one is the fact it will take 19 gallons of water to reconstitute this food. Can you spare that much from your cache?

Secondly, carefully read the nutritional labels.... I recall reading somewhere that they claim 275 servings, but if you eat the way it says you get like 1/4 the calories or something you need.

Thats a very good point. Looking at the labels on the website, each meal as rated is 200-300 calories per serving.. Multiply by 3, and we get 600-900.. which is way less than the 2000 most expect.

But if it tastes good, I can eat 2-3 times the recommended servings..

Yes, water will also be an issue.. hmmm...

My wife and I have the same comment regarding boxes of Stove-Top Stuffing or Kraft Mac and Cheese. If the box says 5 servings we translate it to say "1 Brian and 1 Beth serving"

1 for two people? I must eat way too much. I see a box as a 3/4 meal (I still want more afterwards). Hmmm I wonder how good Kraft would taste if you didn't have milk or butter. Gonna have to try that soon.

Gallihand,

I used to eat the whole box as a meal in college, but at 42 my waistline and metabolism ain't what it used to be. I've never tried kraft without milk/butter. I can't think that it would be as appetizing.

Mac and cheese is one of my favorite comfort foods. I guess I could include it in my disaster food stores if I had powdered milk and butter/margerine. I'd rather would keep the mac and cheese around in microwaveable (chef-boy-ardee or Hormel makes it) containers.

However, Stove-top only needs less water and heat
