Residents evacuated amid tense day battling raging Funny River fire

We've had an unusually warm & dry spring in Alaska. Fire danger is very high. Some days we've had a lot of smoke in Anchorage from this fire down on the Kenai, and another one across Cook Inlet from the city.

Some of us live in earthquake country, some in tornado alley, etc. but nearly all of us are exposed to the hazards of fire, either wild or urban.

Stay safe, AKSAR. We'll keep a candle burning in the window for you.....

A couple days of light rain and a change in the wind direction have cleared the smoke out of town here. Not sure what the rain has done for the fire line yet.

The smoke wasn't so bad. I've seen worse in eastern Washington when the stubble fields get torched. When the Wenatchee forest fire went, it was ugly. Dry oak groves can burn hot enough to vitrify the soil.

I haven't heard of any reports of casualties from this fire yet.
