Virginia Beach Jet Crash 4/6/2012

I was looking at pix from the scene of the jet crash in VA Beach on friday, and a couple of them I can't explain. Firefighters, can you explain what the FD and civilians are doing building cribbing around a charged fire hose in pix 19, 47 and 50 at http://imgur.com/a/4mIEe?

All I can think is they're building a bit of a ramp over the hose, to get a truck closer to the fire or possibly away from it?

I think its interesting that they have civilians moving the blocks from a fire truck and assisting with the cribbing, or whatever it is they're doing.

Anyone have any ideas of what's going on?

I would agree - it looks like they are building cribbing to move the truck over that charged hose. This looks like exactly the sort of thing that CERT volunteers might be involved in. We were fiddling with the cribbing just last week, with more scheduled for this Saturday.

This would seem to be the sort of disaster in which professional forces might be momentarily a bit short handed and would benefit from civilian volunteerism, especially if they had some CERT training.

I'm a bit surprised that one of the photos shows a child carrying some of the cribbing. I'm sure the fire fighters would be very careful about keeping bystanders safe around an active fire scene, especially children, so I can only assume they thought it was a benign place to be.

Cribbing to get vehicles over the charged hose. Don't know why that kid was helping, but VA Beach does have a good volunteer EMS program, and I would assume CERT too. They've been advertising on the radio for the past few months.
