Red River flooding

If the Red River is flooding, it must be spring.

Looks like a bad one this year, at least on the Canadian side. Not sure what's happening south of the 49th.

Mom just called me from Fargo, ND. Dad is in a facility getting dialysis and they're evac'ing because they're almost certain to be flooded. The Red runs thru ND and they suffer floods every year, and Fargo is in the gunsite yet again.

I wish I could get them to leave ND- it's been a mess for many years.

Those 'once in a hundred years' floods are coming sooner and sooner

Minnesota is getting it's fair share of water too. This year the slow melt and the preparations have paid off and it's going to be a lot less disruptive than in past years.

I was watching some aerial recon this morning of the Red up by Fargo/Moorhead and it is easy to see why the river floods every year... with all the curves and switchbacks it does while wandering south it is a wonder it isn't worse. The remarkable thing this year is the amount of water on the flat land areas - it looks like a giant shallow lake in several areas.
