KytoStat?

Has anyone used KytoStat? Would it be a good addition to my first-aid kit?

Sounds promising, I kinda wonder why they aren't selling them anywhere other than grocery stores.

And I'd be curious to see how they came up with the "30 times more effective than other blood stopping technologies..." claim.

it looks like they want you to use this foe everyday cuts and scrapes, not big gushing wounds like you would with the origional hemcon bandage...

I've never used this product, although we have discussed it in the past. The principle behind the product is sound, and it does have some advantages over some other products, such as not producing heat, but the one huge drawback at the moment is that it only comes in "band aid" sizes for consumer sales.

My wife did once slice off a good chunk off the tip of her finger with a very sharp kitchen knife, which bled rather profusely, and this would have come in handy but besides an injury like that, I'm not sure how useful the "blood stopping" capabilities will be for general use since our bodies stop bleeding from run-of-the-mill cuts and scrapes pretty readily (that is, cuts small enough to be covered with these bandages). If you're dealing with people on anti-coagulants, like an elderly parent, then I can see some benefit, but that's pretty much it.

That said, I don't see any reason not to have these in your kit, if they seem interesting to you.

I was thinking about them for my father who is on anti-coagulants, but the price is pretty steep. I guess I'll ask him if he wants to buy them for his kit that I'll probably end up carrying anyway.

$14.99 for 3 bandaids? Sorry, for 3 Kytostat bandages. You've got to be kidding?

They better be able to put themselves on for that kind of money...;^)

I doubt that these bandages are marketed for life threatening situations, otherwise they would sell them in larger sizes for consumer use. It must be targeted at the convenience factor.

You might be on Heparin, you've got this small cut that you're not going to call 911 or go to the ER for, but darn it, it keeps bleeding all over my new, white pants and I'm running out of Kleenex! It's a situation like that where I can see this product being targeted at. The chitosan matrix creates a waterproof seal and stops external blood leakage, and eventually, your compromised clotting ability will finally catch up and stop the bleeding from within. Clean, convenient.
