Moderators, if this is an inappropriate post, please deleate it.

Deputy Piotr (Pete) Cupial is a friend of mine who got shot three times on Sept. 18th when responding to a 911 call. One bullet grazed his abdomen, one bullet got lodged in his handcuffs. The third bullet shattered his fermur, leaving him possibly crippled for life. The shooter was an adult male who had just killed his mom. After shooting Pete the gunman killed himself (yay!).

Pete's medical bills are paid for but he'll be out of work for a minimum of four months. During that time his only income will be a small amount from Workman's Comp. Once he has healed it's unlikely that he'll be able to continue working as a deputy (or moonlighting as a security guard) as he will never be able to run again. In light of this a fundraiser for him will be taking place in Tomball, Texas on Oct. 28th. Details below.

Fundraiser to Be Held for Wounded Deputy

Harris County Sheriff Department

A fundraiser will take place in late October for a Sheriff's Deputy who was shot and injured following a murder-suicide in northwest Harris County.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office has organized a barbecue benefit for Deputy Piotr "Pete" Cupial who was shot after answering a 911 call.

The benefit is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Red River Dance Hall and Saloon. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Red River Dance Hall is located on 23238 Tomball Parkway, Tomball, TX 77375.

Tickets for the benefit will cost ten dollars per person and includes a meal with brisket, chicken and sausage. Live and silent auctions as well as prize drawings are also scheduled to take place.

Proceeds from the event will benefit a fund for Deputy Cupial at the Harris County Credit Union.

For tickets or information call 281-290-2100.

If anyone in the area could attend many blessings would fall upon your head. Plus, you'd get to meet me!

"...he'll be out of work for a minimum of four months. During that time his only income will be a small amount from Workman's Comp...."

Wow, I guess that CA has better workmans comp for their officers, at least state patrolmen. In that case, the officer would be on full pay, tax free, for up to 12 months from the date of injury. But of course Arnold is trying to take that away too...

Glad he survived, and really glad the BG did the right thing in the end...

Thanks Nighthiker. Yeah, the shooter did have some mental issues but at least in the end he found a wonderful cure...as far as the rest of society is concerned.

For those of you who read my blog, the officer who was shot is Clark's brother-in-law.
