Camping gear checklists?

Camping gear checklists? - 12/17/06 05:13 AM

Just wondering if anyone has found any good camping gear checklists on the web, or has created one of their own. (Especially in Excel format.)

Spending my weekend sick and going through the camping gear, adding a few odds and ends.

I've started making a lot of my own. I keep an inventory of all my gear and have collected so much survival/preparedness information that its difficult to locate the correct information. So I've started organizing it into quick reference cards and checklists. I have two printers capable of printing 4x6 photos so I bought a bunch of 4x6 index cards and made a 4x6 template in OpenOffice (I have to use Excel at work and between the bugs, oversized files and non compatibility throughout different versions I no longer trust it at home, plus I can take portable openoffice on a flash drive with my files). I made a simple checklist for truck maintenance showing which direction to rotate the tires, lug nut torque and the grease fittings, reference cards for my radios and electronic gear and checklists for loading camping gear and preps when/if we have to go.

Coleman has lots of checklists on their website coleman.com. None of them are Excel files though.

Some Checklists are on the GORP site

You might also want to search some of the Boy Scout sites.

I always use checklists for camping -- otherwise I end up forgetting something important; A spoon, TP, sunglasses...something. Keep these on the computer and add to the as you go.

Another nice trick is to make sure that paper and a pen/pencil is on your checklist. That way, once you've got camp set up and realize that you don't have something because it's not on your list, you can at least write it down so you can edit your checklist and it won't happen again.

Cedfire...here are some spreadsheets I found a while back. Scroll down through them and download some to look them over. Maybe you can tailor one for your use?
