Americans as a group are insanely self-delusional.

But what else can you expect from a population who lives to own a big-screen television, the better to absorb the crap that is dished out to them?

What else can you expect from a population who has been trained from the cradle to expect someone else to solve all their problems and come riding to the rescue to mitigate their poor decisions?

Why is it that every hurrican season, when a big-un is coming, you see the same people standing in line, fighting to get sheets of plywood to put over their windows, bottles of water, flashlight batteries, etc.? What do they do with the plywood between seasons? Why do they wait 'til the last minute to get the basic stuff they should have all the time anyway???

"Trickle-down apathy" really sums it up.

Don't worry about it - it's some one else's responsibility...
-and-
That's best left to the "professionals"...
-and-
...

You get the picture.

Here's a previous discussion on that article. It was an interesting article, for sure.

Now now now Susan. You are generalizing. I happen to own a VERY large HDTV, and can vouch for learning a GREAT deal about history and current events. Just because I enjoy "Futurama" doesnt mean I am not prepared.

It is easy for employed middle class people to ask why people don't prepare. Preparation for what may never come is difficult when the question every month is "are we going to be able to make all our bills this month?"

A lot of preparation is simply thinking, and the last I heard, that doesn't cost anything. A lot of people won't even do that.

God I love a thoughtful woman. It's refreshing and gives me hope.

Why is it, do you suppose, that in this age of equality and empowerment, when the SHTF, typically the fems take a big step back and the real men step up and into it? I would have no worries getting tossed in the thick of things with someone like you, but most of the womenfolk I've been around wouldn't be worth a tinker's darn in a catastrophe. Then again, I guess I could say the same for quite a few fellows too. Mollycoddling seems to be an ever-expanding standard these days.

Damn Susan, you have put a smile on my face. I do like the way you think!

Hope you take that as a compliment. My opinions may not be admired by everyone I realize.
