At $89.95, this is expensive, but looks pretty cool:

Ahh yes... the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog.

Maybe it's time to order the electronic tie rotator or perhaps the patio/garage sweeper.

Re: The Write Anywhere Pen - 02/24/06 05:13 AM

Yeah, that's slick, but not worth the money IMHO. A couple of cheaper options:

1) Rite in the Rain has an awesome sampler deal for $12 that includes an all-weather pen (Fisher Space type), a couple waterproof notepads and some misc. copy paper. This includes S&H. I'm not sure how they do it, but I've been very impressed with the pen and the paper.

2) There are Fisher Space Pen refills (writes in the rain, underwater, through grease, etc.) for many non-Fisher pens. I got one for a Waterman I have, and you can get them for Cross and other pens as well.

Re: The Write Anywhere Pen - 02/24/06 05:53 AM

I really had to twist my own arm to shell out the $16 for the Fisher Bullet!

Although it would be cool to have a titanium pen...

Some of the gadgets exist merely for their own sake, I grant you that, but other than that, what's wrong with the company? If you have a real beef with them, I would like to know.

Thanks for the links.

Yes, it is expensive, but I like the built-in keyring, how it may be extended to full-length, and the way it seems built like a tank.

Agreed. This has a higher gadget factor, though, which you pay for.

Just poking a little fun.

I always find their stuff in the seatback catalogs on the airplane.

Cool. There's a white noise sound generator for better sleeping I'm REALLY interested in.

I have found the incessant yapping of my 17 yr. old daughter on her cell phone to be an excellent white noise generator.

It's all your fault! I just had to spend the $12 after reading that.

I'll sell you one. Cheap!

Re: The Write Anywhere Pen - 02/27/06 02:42 AM

Ha! You won't regret it. Maybe the best $12 I've spent in awhile. I opted for the Tactical set, how about you? I'd be curious to know how many times one could take advantage of the Intro/Sampler offer. It'd be nice to have a few of those around. I will say, though, that I've only used a few pages of the waterproof notebook paper to put emergency info, PINs, etc. in my BOBs. Seems like I ought to write something pretty profound on paper that durable.

Re: The Write Anywhere Pen - 02/27/06 05:19 AM

If you read that $12 offer carefully, they state the shipping and handling is free on a *future* order, from that I assume that S&H is charged on the $12 offer

Re: The Write Anywhere Pen - 02/27/06 06:53 AM

Shipping is free on the 12 bux offer and on a future order.

Re: The Write Anywhere Pen - 02/27/06 03:59 PM

It is on the first order and your second order. Hard to believe but I've done in a couple times (once to myself and once to my brother)--a flat $12 both times. There may not be a free lunch but...

Here we go: The Inka Pen -- A good alternative - 02/28/06 07:59 PM

Inka Pen

What do you think? Found it at LightHouse.com. Thought I'd pass it along. Looks good. Reasonable price.

Nice find. At $24.00 for stainless it's very compairable to Fisher Bullet Space pens and in a more compact configuration.

Only one problem. Got to looking around the lighthound website and now I'm thinking again about buying a Fenix.

Geez, ANOTHER flashlight! Somebody, STOP ME!!

Re: Here we go: The Inka Pen -- A good alternative - 02/28/06 10:54 PM

Now that is a thing of beauty. With the change left over from not buying the Ti version, I could buy titanium camp utensils for the entire family! Hm. Go figure on that one. Good link--thanks.

I bought myself the Fenix L1P from LightHound for my 45th birthday (Feb. 25). I'm looking forward to playing with it.

Re: The Write Anywhere Pen - 03/01/06 08:26 AM

I've had my Fisher Bullet EDC in my pocket for years. For the cost for either of the pens mentioned, I just don't see the value. The Fisher pen can write on about anything and mine has gone through the wash, been stepped on, had tools dropped on it, run over, and I once dropped it briefly in a fire before I had a chance to knock it out with a branch. My pen is a tank.

If you want a keyring, the Bullet could be drilled for that. The cartridge itself is waterproof, so you would just need to be concerned with the interior and I don't think there's any harm as long as you dry it out if it gets wet via the newly drilled split-ring hole.

Other than fine scratching from constant contact with other metal items in my pocket, It's still in like-new condition after half a decade of abuse. You can have it when they pry my cold dead hands from it.

Re: Here we go: The Inka Pen -- A good alternative - 03/01/06 02:48 PM

Craig,

You'll love the Fenix. Very bright, and a common battery type. I carry mine "upside down" in its holster, which allows me to use it without removing it (another tip from CPF).

Re: Here we go: The Inka Pen -- A good alternative - 03/01/06 03:03 PM

I hope so. I read nothing but positive reviews of the Fenix L1P.

Then, in no particular order, I'd like to get the Fenix L2P, Peak LED "Caribbean," Inova XO, and Arc AAA Premium.

My name is Craig. I am a flashaholic.

Re: Here we go: The Inka Pen -- A good alternative - 03/01/06 06:22 PM

Write any-where pen ???

hmmmm

From my kids' desks, I get half-pencils, used crayons and few other nice thingies. If you include a short pencil and a shorter crayon in your EDC, youd be pretty covered for most writing emergencies.

Re: Here we go: The Inka Pen -- A good alternative - 03/01/06 06:23 PM

Yeah, but the crayon cuts your COOL factor to zero.

Re: Here we go: The Inka Pen -- A good alternative - 03/02/06 05:05 AM

My point is : keep it simple.

You can find any kind of writing device in your kids school leftover, or stationary shelves. There is everything from fluroescent ( highlighting ) markers to eraseable pens.

Use them creatively.

I guess that means no one wants to hear about my bargains at the Dollar Store.....

Au contraire, I said nothing about the Dollar Store. Grin. Only about crayons.

We have a Dollar Store in the nearby shopping center. I have been know to buy one or two items in there myself.

If you would like to expound upon a visit you made to your friendly neighborhood Dollar Store, please do.
