Another Trip in Coach - 08/26/04 03:56 AM

Let's see...this year I've flown cross county about 10 times, to the midwest five times, in the Northeast corridor 4 times and to the south twice.
I landed in San Francisco this AM, I'm leaving to fly back east tomorrow afternoon.
In all of this, I've noticed a general slacking off of security in general. This morning in Newark, I think I could have put a howitzer through the x-ray and they would have waved me through. Horseplay, use of cell phones and a general lack of attention by the TSA drones in Newark didn't make me feel that great. I'm also packed way light this trip, despite being in earthquake country, I'm really lightly "equipped" out here - just a tiny flashlight and a whistle really. Feels strange not to have a knife, and this trip was just too short to ship the usual kit out.

Nothing else to report, just a TSA rant.

Yeah, they're too busy stealing our stuff to worry about things like guns, knives and explosives.
This is an interesting if dispiriting link .

Apparently AMTRAK is initiating a belated security protocol. Why, I don't know, as the backed up toilets, conductors without watches, screwed up schedules and food unworthy of a convenience store microwave is allready an act of terrorism.

thats what happens when you start hiring your personnel from the bottom of the barrel instead of looking for trained professionals, or making them actually *gasp* DO some work.

I read the TSA was suddenly cracking down on kubotans -- pocket sticks -- as if they only just discovered what they were and could be used for.
