When is a multitool also a pocket tool?

I have found blessed few multitools to be genuine pocket tools, as in tools you feel comfortable carrying in your trouser pockets.

Coat pockets vary so much I'm not including them.

The only full-sized multitool that fills the "pocket" bill thus far is my old reliable Leatherman PST. It slides in right next to my wallet, just as pretty as you please.

My Wave and Victorinox SwissTool R/S are simply to large. The Wave MIGHT work, but has some sharpish edges to it.

Your own experiences, anyone?

I found that I cannot carry my Vic Champ without its sheath. Thnak god so far it has done its job and has done over many years.
I own only one knife which feels comfi in my pocket and that is a Sheperds knife. Non lock, 1 blade and esay to fall in love with!

I can carry my own Vic SwissChamp without discomfort underneath my wallet, which resides in the front pocket of my jeans. The degree of comfort depends on which pair of jeans I am wearing. The pocket depth seems to vary.

Do you like your Vic SwissChamp better than, say, the Leatherman Wave (a favorite here at the Equipped forums) or the Vic SwissTool?

I found that my Gerber Multiplier or Wave fit comfortably into the front pocket of my jeans. I prefer to use a pouch on my belt though. Pocket lint is not the best lubricant for those tools.

Does the Wave occupy your entire pocket, or do you carry other item in your pocket, too?

It occupies about half of my pocket. I don´t carry other items in the same pocket. I usually ride two-wheelers so I´m not exactly a fan of stuffed front pockets.

You mean motorcycles? If so, please be careful. Someone I work with got hit by a car this summer. He is still in physical therapy and sustained neurological damage. Sometimes he does not know who he is.

There's a lot of danger out there. I got married a decade ago - suffered pshycological damage as a result and now I don't know who I am most of the time. If it weren't for having such a compassionate boss and wonderful wife I wouldn't be sure what day it is but the boss calls me everytime I forget it's Monday and the Wife reminds me everytime it's payday. It helps to have understanding people around when you have suffered psychological damage <img src="images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I mean motorcycles and bicycles. Neither is fun to ride when you stuff the pockets of your pants.
Sorry to hear about your coworker. I hope he´ll recover as much as possible.
I lost a motorcycle to a crash last year <img src="images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />. Proper armor, judo lessons and some luck helped to stay unharmed (neither the police nor the medics could believe it after seeing the bike). I do my best to avoid accidents.

Do you carry your Wave in your pocket in a sheath or as is?

The Wave is my designated motorcycle multitool. I keep it in the original leather sheath and put it in a pocket of my biking jacket. Those pockets have enough capacity to make you search for the Wave.
The Gerber is my office tool and I carry it in the sheath on my belt.

Depending on what trousers (pants <img src="images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />) i'm wearing, I can usually fit large tools in my pockets comfortably. I even carry an opinel folding saw without even noticing it. This is the same size as the size 12 opinel knife.
