Not even a letter opening knife in his gear.

Well, no. But he did have a fedora that served in field and city as a fine roof. A thick leather jacket, orthopedic boots ( I can get the details of the shoe- it is still made) of thick leather and exceptional fit. A pouch ( an old gas mask bag) instead of a day pack. Shirt that had expandable pockets that buttoned and had sleeves that rolled and buttoned in the up position-- thick pants with reinforced seat and knees.

I can get the details of manufactures from the fan sites.

Well, waddya think? A set of gear worth copying - or just fashion for a movie?

Dr. Henry Jones Junior carried a multitude of emergency gear in his little bag and on his person. Much of this stuff we will never know about.

I would think open carry of a revolver would be illegal in some of the countries he has travelled to. For self defense it seems to do him good.

The bull whip seems to work for self defense as well as negotiating difficult terrain.

I would replace the "Good Luck Charm," Zippo style lighter with a BIC or Windmill.

His personal knowledge of thirteen languages and local customs would serve anyone who is a world traveler.

Lets face it. If you can single handidly defeat the Third Reich, God's Wrath, an army of Kali worshippers, a Thompson Machine Gun, a thousand Knasps, and jumping from high altitude with only a raft into the Indian backcountry then there is little need for a PSK. <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

His father on the other hand used a tie and hankerchief to block the sun, a fountain pen for self sefense, and an umbrella to defeat an attack plane. I would say good improvisation on his part.

I think I would replace the shoulder strap on the bag he carried with one that would break away with the weight of a human being. This would take care of those pesky instances when you get it caught on a tank's cannon and the driver drives too close to the side of a hill.

Yep, yep. Still, I bought the best fitting steel toed boots I could find- added some Superfeet liners, bought a nice fedora and an A2 style bomber jacket. Surplus gas mask bag and a web belt for my fanny pack, canteen, knife and leatherman.

Neatly modular- I wear cotton in hot summer or a poly blend-- winter I switch to wool and poly underwear for clothes and follow Mor Kochanski's advice for socks and boots. Simply stand on one foot- hold 40 pounds and draw around your foot- add a size and you have your winter boot size.

The whip was supplied by David Morgan of Washington, who I believe is now online. One must remember archaeologists tend to acummulate rather obscure, unloved and utterly useless bits of knowledge. Then one day a large bodybuilder makes a rude pass at your date. The restaurant ( Russian) is playing Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky ( the Battle on the Ice.) You make a threat. He begins to walk over and a pitcher of icewater is poured on the floor. Mr Muscles falls on his derrier and breaks tailbone. You apologise to the waiter for the mess, get up,tip well and step on his hand leaving.
