You may have noticed I've been gone for a while. With the vacation (which is always stressful for me), foot surgery, holidays, and Mom getting Covid, I have been busy recently. I'm able to find relief as things return to normal.

I hope the foot is doing well, and good to have you back. Things have been a bit slow lately but that's to be expected with Xmas & NYE in there.

Glad to have you back! I hope you had a speedy and complete recovery.
One of the worst things about the foot surgery was taking Cephalexin 500 MG (an antibiotic) four times a day for ten days. Since I can't swallow pills, I have to pull the capsules apart and mix the contents in an applesauce cup.
Having to eat applesauce four times a day, I developed a bit of food fatigue.

Since I can't swallow pills, I have to pull the capsules apart and mix the contents in an applesauce cup.
Medicine that is in a capsule that is supposed to be swallowed whole can be dangerous if you take them apart. They are ment to dissolve slowly in the stomach (that is why the medicine is in a capsule) and if you take them apart they start to take effect too soon and might cause overdose or other harm.
Perhaps this is not the case with antibiotics, I donīt know.

I am not a medical professional.
My understanding is that the "shell" of a capsule disintegrates quickly and that the internal components are designed (if needed) to slowly disperse the medication as they are digested.
I wouldn't worry about taking the powder or granules out of a antibiotic capsule to mix into applesauce.
Grinding up tablets can be a very bad idea, depending on the medication.
When unable to swallow pills, you do what you have to do. Of course, my primary care doctor knows about my problem.

I got the Omnicron variant two days ago, and I'm already improving. I thought I only had the common cold since I was not that sick and didn't have a fever. But no, It's Omnicron.
In case anyone's wondering, I got the first J&J vaccine.

I'm glad you're getting better! Early reports indicate that the J&J vaccine doesn't offer much against Omicron (at least in preventing it) but it still seems to mitigate the symptoms a fair bit. In any event it's good that your case is mild.
