who feel their little gizmos are not getting enough use. This web site www.geocaching.com is the answer. It is basically a treasure hunt with GPS coordinates. Great thing to get familiar and comfortable with you device. Also all this walking around will give you a nice workout.

I can attest that geocaching is definitely a fun hobby/sport. My wife and I have discovered many hiking areas we never knew existed in our area while searching for caches. As Matt said, its a great way to learn how to use a GPS and also a compass.

Matt,

thanks for the heads up. I have actually talked my wife into trying this out. It seems like a pretty cheap date!

Geocaching is great! A lot of fun and sometimes there is some cool stuff to trade. <img src="images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

as far as i'm concerned the less use my gps gets the better, it means that i'm still able to navigate the old fsahioned way!! if i'm out and about it's always with me tho.

Hmmm.

You may want to power up that GPS from time to time just to practice navigating with it. I am fairly proficient with a map and compass but when I started geocaching I was rather perplexed. GPS is a great system but it still requires practice.

dont' get me wrong, its always on, and its got me out of a couple of tricky situations, and i've lent it to friends and its save them a lot of hassle. it got me off of kinder scout in the fog and my frinds off of one the high peaks in the lake district in fog and rain.
