Animal-Caused Death Stats - 07/21/17 04:23 AM

Since in the recent bear defense discussion, some people point out that while the chances of getting killed by a bear is really low in general, once you go into bear country, the odds are "way up." What's way up? Here we have some numbers.

Lindi Smith, "Map Shows the Animal Most Likely to Kill You in Each State," Wide Open Country: http://www.wideopencountry.com/u-s-map-shows-deadliest-animal-in-each-state/

Ignore the clickbait, and go to the figure "What Are Your Odds of Being Killed by an Animal?" (produced here for your convenience):

It looks like in Mass., your chance of getting killed by an animal is 1 in 8,184,535, and in Montana it is 1 in 674,600. So you're 12 times more likely to get killed by an animal in Montana. Note: bears don't read stats, so they might not know this. Also, the number one animal killer is apparently the deer, not the bear.
