Just for kicks, i went to the Survival Knives section of a cutting edge knife retailer and looked at his offerings. Prices ranged from $385 to $20. Blade lengths varied from 12 inches to 3 3/4. There seemed to be many offerings costing about three figures with lengths clustering around 5 inches. So there are lots of choices, depending upon exactly your concept of a survival knife would be.
I also looked at another internet source and found a UST survival knife offered for $6 (MSRP is all of $10). They didn't list the type of stainless steel in this knife, but I am sure it is genuine metal. I am so tempted to order it, and see how it performs.
