Interesting but also kind of scary. Call me a fuddy-duddy but relying on electronics in the wild sounds is not something I'd do.

Backup maps would be required. I have been using a spare android phone with no service as a position locator on a map this year and it works amazingly.

I navigated for decades with map and compass and never got lost, although to quote Daniel Boone, "I was mightily confused" on an occasion or two.

GPS is extremely useful in keeping track of distance covered, elevation. and the like. it is even more useful when bike touring, compared to backpacking. Just remember that you are totally dependent on batteries....
