Summer has finally arrived. - 04/27/11 06:02 PM

Summer seems to have finally arrived!!

A day out fishing, fire making and shooting. With a couple of bottles of Stella Artois, some smoke, some fish and plenty of sunshine I ended up smelling like a Kipper. grin

The location - Balmerino just down from the Abbey ruins founded in 1227 with Dundee across the water.

Looking up a small bay on the Fife side of the River Tay.

Getting a fire going, the logs were dealt with using a MOD 4 Survival Knife AKA the tree slapper.

A nice big Sea Trout...Mmmmm

An improvised air gun range...

Playing survival can sometimes be fun.. laugh

super photos!! a nice bit of ground to be able to "play" in..1227 for the Abbey, the fort by the Mississippi river just a few minutes away was built in 1840 something and that's old for this part of the country, and no fish in our river as nice as that--

I used to catch sea trout years ago.

Great pictures.

I hope to fly fish soon after the snow stops in the Pacific Northwest.

As a person who is not well acquainted with the wilderness, I'm curious about something. How does one cook the fish after catching one?

The two most common ways are to saute them, or season and wrap in foil, and bake.

If you're in survival mode, try to find some clay, flatten out some clumps of it, and wrap the fish with it, pinching the seams. Cook in the coals. Remember that fish doesn't usually take as long to cook as other meats.

Sauté them? I was thinking in terms of out in the wilderness though this is good too.

If you've got a pan and iedients, sauteeing is yummy!

You can also roast it over the fire by butterflying it and skewering it with whittled (read "sanded") sticks.

Add some fresh picked berries and/or herbs to either method and you've gome gourmet! One tip is to cook it a fresh as possible.
