I hope they wrap the Jack--- that did that in duct tape and remove it slowly. Without the aid of anesthetics.

Even if it is just a nice "Sumo Wrap".

Re: Blast!!!!! - 09/30/09 01:59 PM

Not to defend this kid's actions but he was apparently distraught over the recent violent deaths of his father and brother and may have had pre-existing emotional problems.

The cat survived and was adopted yesterday from the shelter.

Apparently cats should avoid living in Philly. A school bus driver was caught throwing 3 kittens from the back of his bus onto the street. Passersby saved the kittens, id'd the bus and the police arrested the driver on animal cruelty charges.

Maybe we should start a movement to relocate Philly felines to Houston homes.

Yes, among other things, I think they should put him in prison and duct tape him for a couple of days every week. And I hope he has a lot of body hair.

"Not to defend this kid's actions but he was apparently distraught over the recent violent deaths of his father and brother and may have had pre-existing emotional problems."

That info kind of makes a person wonder HOW they died and WHO did it, hmmmmm? And it doesn't excuse his behavior one iota.

Duct tape doesn't pull enough hair to be satisfactory punishment for this.

Packing tape, however . . . .

Re: Blast!!!!! - 10/01/09 12:19 AM

As some of you know, I am not a cat fan of any sort. I actually lean more towards ambivalence instead of malevolence. Anyway, this was uncalled regardless of his extant "emotional or mental condition". The guy is a low life; period!! He is not much better than the likes of Michael Vick. Sorry, I digress.

Blast, feel free to organize the relocation efforts of the kitties to your area of the country. I know the worst you would do is bathe them according to the vet's advice. BTW, I would seriously consider changing your vet.

I agree with Sue. There´s no excuse for this. That was very disgusting act. I am glad the cat is OK.

Re: Blast!!!!! - 10/01/09 09:21 PM

I really really hope they get that kid some pyschologial help. As there have been studies on serial killers that have started with animal abuse first then worked up to humans.
I am soo glad that the cat will be ok and getting a new safe home. IMO anyone who abuses an animal needs to be watched like a hawk for life.

I seems like an awful waste of good duct tape.

"Basically he saw the animal in his yard, didn't like the animal in the yard," animal rescue worker George Bengal told WPVI-TV in Philly. "I think this young fellow has a lot of issues going on in his life. He was very remorseful for what he did. Hopefully he will get the help that he needs."

How do you "recondition" someone like that? Jeffrey Dahmer? Ted Bundy? Charles Manson? I think it is beyond current psychiatric abilities.

And it was a nice, friendly cat, too. Blast's cat probably wouldn't allow it.

If I recall correctly, Jeffrey Dahmer received rehabilitation appropriatte to his crimes while in prison.

The young fellow in this case, if found guilty, richly deserves a period of incarceration, but since he will be released to society within a short time, it is in our and his own interest that he receive intensive psychiatric care.

Unfortunately, this is unlikely to happen. Instead, he is likely to leave leave prison more traumatized, more anti-social, less able to function in civil society, less likely to be employed and enjoy academic or occupational success, and probably possessed with a brand new set of criminal skills, attitudes and connections.

I feel sorry for this kid and the problems he's had, but there are plenty of kids with similar problems who didn't take them out on helpless animals. As has been pointed out, this sort of behavior is an ominous warning sign. Nonetheless, we cannot let such crimes go without punishment. I'd like to see some reasonable amount of jail time, followed by a veeerrrry long probationary period with mandatory psychologicsal treatment and monitoring.

"If I recall correctly, Jeffrey Dahmer received rehabilitation appropriaste to his crimes while in prison."

He may have been given some kind of left-handed 'rehabilitation', but I would seriously doubt that it took.

I simply don't see how you're going to change someone like that. It's a given that you aren't going to change child molesters, but serial killers can be rehabbed? Unlikely.

Re: Blast!!!!! - 10/07/09 08:24 PM

Y'all might hate me for this, but I've known instances where such action was entirely warranted, and yes, under the conditions I am privy to (but not the one mentioned in this thread), I would most likely perpetrate such an heinous act myself.

Fortunately it has not come to that, but such is the case with many issues I have that have not come to fruition. God must be watching out for me. Sometimes I hear of such calamaties from other folk and think to myself "Darn, now where was I when it went down?"

And Sue is quite correct, there is no rehabilitation for someone who is capable of doing such a thing. Only control.
