One very annoyed bear...

One very annoyed bear... - 09/23/09 01:46 PM

My DD and her salmon survey crew came across 3 bears feeding along a stream on the shore of Prince William Sound. Two bears ran off but this guy was so startled he bolted up a tree.

Everyone but the bear was laughing and no members of the ADFG were hurt in the filming of this incident.

We came across three bears in a tree yesterday in Shenandoah National Park.

They are amazingly agile.

Great pictures!

I find it amazing how thin those branches are that he's standing upon! I guess if ever "tree'd" by a bear, you better be going up like crazy until you're standing on leaves. Or better be good at Tarzan impersonations and jump tree to tree.

My guestimate is not very good, but I judge that branch that is clearly visible to be 4 inches... not what I'd call "thin". Probably strong enough to support at least half a toyota.

Doesn't look like a full-grown blackie to me.

I'd be keeping a weather eye out for the Chairwoman of the Board.

The ones in Dagny's pictures seem to be in a white oak.
Do bears climb trees to harvest acorns?

I was just thinking "Where's mom?".

In the first picture, definetely. I was looking at the second; it appears to me that the bear is standing with front legs on a much thinner branch (2 inches?)
