things that make me smile - 03/11/09 11:19 PM

Monday night, about 9.30 at night, I put an order in with Batter Junction. Yesterday morning, before sunrise, they had it to UPS.

This morning, it was at my side. New light, some tac-ties to test, and a toner cartridge. *shrugs* Some neat stuff, something I just needed.

They made me smile on a bad day.

Try ordering stuff from Summit Racing, they pretty much get it to you the day before you order it. They must be psychic or something, lol.

Ahhhh! "Make Me Smile". Chicago. Early 70's. I loved that song. Saw Chicago in concert several times.

Yes, "Make Me Smile" makes me smile!

Lucky you, Battery Junction is a virtual toy store.

Another company that gives great mail order service is McMaster-Carr industrial supplies. They use different warehouses to ship from depending on your location and deliver extremely quickly. Prices can be good to bad depending on the item but if you really need something, they're hard to beat. Plus they've got one of the best online catalogues I've ever used. Their printed catalogues are actually collected and resold on ebay by the really fervent fans and I suppose some machine shop types looking for a few extra bucks.

B and H Photo is another "toy" store with super fast shipping. I've only bought a few things from them but they are always out the door asap.

I'll put in the following:

MSC/J&L - Machine tool supply houses (merged). Slightly different stock than McMaster - less MRO, but a lot more cutting tools/machine tools. Next day service in most of the country

New Graham - another good knife place

Believe it or not Amazon Prime - if you are going to do regular business with them, join prime. Free 2 day shipping, and typically $3.99 next day

For me it's KnifeCenter.com. In stock orders are generally at my door in less than 24 hours. Nice folks.

RE Midway Arms:

I got REALLY ticked off at them, and canceled my account. I needed to order a reloading press, and needed it ASAP (I had loaned my press to someone, and I forget who)

Anyway, I ordered the press, and asked for it to be shipped UPS Next Day. Well, Midway shipped it "signature required" (why, I have no idea) and they would NOT authorize me to pick it up at the UPS depot - they actually have forbidden UPS to release packages at the depot

I missed my one weekend of shooting for the year because of that - There was NO way I was going to take a vacation day to pick up the press - I had UPS return to vendor, and canceled my account

When my daughter told me that I am the one she calls when she is having emotional stress/problems because I am the only one who can calm her down.

Or this. My 16 year old son comes down from the computer room and says he thinks he just wrote a sermon.

Re: things that make me smile - 03/13/09 07:18 PM

I go shooting 1x/year, so missing my 1 day is a big deal for me, plus the fact that with their rule change, anytime I need to order from them, I'd have to take a day off from work. Nope, not happening
